Working with an Executive Recruiter

A strong relationship with an executive recruiter can make a significant difference in your career. Recruiters can serve a purpose beyond just recruiting. They can be great career advisors in terms of making strategic moves within your organization, and they can be key advisors in terms of independently helping you assess other opportunities they are not representing. Recruiters respond to candidates that go out of their way to be considerate of their time, who follow-up, and candidly discuss any concerns or issues. Conversely, candidates who leave a poor impression on an executive recruiter can significantly damage their career prospects. The recruiting community, even in competing firms, communicates with each other much more than candidates realize. We cross-check frequently to affirm our impressions of candidates before we submit them to clients. If people have a great reputation within this recruiting community, they are going to have significant options throughout their career. Our referrals to other executive recruiting firms can greatly enhance the job possibilities for candidates that understand how to work with us. Candidates who have not behaved ethically or whose reputations are suspect, are at a huge disadvantage in the marketplace.

Fostering the relationship:
  • Prompt and thorough communication
  • Referrals of candidates for roles you may not be interested in
  • Be a straight-shooter; just as in any business situation, there are no "good surprises"
  • Recognize the quality of your referrals are a reflection on you and your ability to assess talent
  • Make sure recruiters have a comprehensive understanding of your entire compensation plan
  • NEVER fabricate your salary plan
  • We respect people who have an ongoing relationship with us a lot more than people we only hear from when they need us

Interviewing

As part of our interview preparation process, we provide you information regarding the company and position that you are pursuing. We think it is important to understand where a company has been and where they are going. We believe it is important for you to know where those organizations need to improve.

We offer personalized interview coaching and techniques prior to meeting with one of our clients. This process enables you to be well informed and confident during the actual interview process.

We also provide a series of potential interview questions. In reviewing the questions, you are afforded the opportunity to consider SITUATIONS you have encountered relative to each question, the ACTIONS you took and the quantifiable RESULTS of the experiences that you are conveying during an interview.

Logistics
  • We arrange and coordinate the timing of your interview with our client(s).
  • We work with you prior to the interview to ensure you are well prepared.
  • Once you've completed your interview we discuss your thoughts regarding the position, company, and culture to discover if you have an interest in moving forward.
  • We also discuss your interview with the employer's hiring manager and provide you with feedback regarding your interview. We share positive and constructive feedback as coaching tools for future interviews or searches.
  • We are involved with our clients in putting together an equitable, compensation package and job offer for you, the candidate. This process includes continued candidate interaction and support during the acceptance process (physical examinations, reference checks, etc) or with client offer negotiations as needed.

Interviewing is a 50/50 proposition. You have to be as confident as we are in the future you may have with one of our clients.
